The Virgin Spreader chronicles my journey into the world of spread betting.
This spreadbetting blog starts from day one of a novice spreadbetting career. I intend to hunt down as much advice on spread betting as possible, talk to as many professional spread betters as possible and develop a winning spread betting strategy. And I will write it all down here. If you have anything you would like to contribute PLEASE get in touch!INSIGHT

_________________ Since my last spread betting failures I have once again increased my research rate and am considering new options. According to GFT, avoiding a trading tragedy should be easy should you take their crucial ten step spread betting advice. While these ten steps offer a good grounding, the essential fact is that those new to spread betting will have to at some stage up their game in terms of analysis and complexity of their trading strategies. In line with this I have signed up with the FTSE 100 Club - these guys send out instant messages issued by professional traders in order to help people who aren't adept at technical analysis such as myself. And this got me thinking that if this is going to work I am going to have to have access to my account at all times. When they tell you to close out of a trade or adjust your stop loss you will want to be able to do so quickly. Easy if you are always in front of your desk, but this is not always the case. Hence the iPhone trading app from City Index caught my eye as being an obvious answer to this issue. However - minutes into this experiment I have encountered problems in that I can't seam to be able to log into my account via the iPhone. Anyway. The world of spread betting has caught iPhone fever alleges a piece in the Financial Times: In October, the first Apple-approved spread betting application for the iPhone was launched by City Index. The application, which allows spread betters to place trades and orders as well as monitor existing positions, has already achieved its year-end target of 10,000 downloads through the Apple iStore. And it looks as though GFT are going to get in on the act. “We’ve had a lot of demand from our clients for a fully integrated iPhone application. More and more traders don’t spend all their time at their desk, so we’ve tried to make it as robust as our normal trading platform,” says Tim Gort of GFT. My question is this though: How slick are these apps? iPhones are unable to support Java - the very foundation of all spread betting platforms. Hopefully when City Inedx let me into their app I can answer this question. |
